The music for the children’s book “Marvin Makes Music”

Marvin Hamlisch and Rupert Holmes applied their talent to create a song to complement Marvin’s Children’s book “Marvin Makes Music.”

(Book Marvin Makes Music: Read More / Buy the book)

The idea was to “give melody” to the concepts that Marvin was trying to express in the book. It is a Children’s book for ages 4 to 8 (or 4 to 104) – give or take.

“The idea for this book was to tell my experience about my audition to be accepted at The Juilliard School at the age of 7.

Also we decided to complement the book with a song for kids to learn.

A song that says that there is so much music in the world, wherever you go –

And some people classify that music as “NOISE” when they hear it (a horn honking for example).

But some kids actually don’t hear it  as “noise” but as MUSIC instead.

And that’s what we wanted to do…we wanted to create this new world for them…And so I hope that you are going to enjoy the book. -Marvin Hamlisch (1944-2012) -Book Posthumously released

  1. Beautiful lyrics and melodies for “The Music in My Mind”
Thank you. Our family enjoys the stories and the music that came with it.

    “The music in my mind
    Belongs to me
Ev’ry note I hear rings true.
And soon the world will find these sounds
And songs to be worth singing:
Like summer rains and wooden spoons,
And passing trains and popped balloons,
And every sound from far and near,
It won’t be long before you hear them, too.
