March 18, 2013 The Paley Center, New York – PALEY100: What I Did For Love: The Music and Life of Marvin Hamlisch – This evening, originally planned and conceived by Marvin himself in the days just prior to his passing, as a retrospective on his work, instead allowed us all to pay tribute to his inspiring work and brilliant career. Stars of stage and screen performed and also reflected on working with Hamlisch and his iconic impact on media, particularly in the field of television and film. The program was interspersed with various clips from the Paley Center Collection.

Performers: John Lithgow, Klea Blackhurst, Malcolm Gets, J. Mark McVey among other starts.

Presenters included Tom Brokaw, Terre Blair Hamlisch, Rupert Holmes, Pat Mitchell, and Steven Soderbergh

The Seattle Symphony Orchestra at Benaroya Hall performed a “Marvin Hamlisch Tribute”

The Seattle Symphony honored the tremendous musical legacy of Marvin Hamlisch with a tribute program featuring best-loved music for stage and screen by the late composer.  (The Musical tribute to Marvin Hamlisch included songs from A Chorus Line,  They’re Playing Our song and other Broadway musicals. And music from “The Sting”, “Ice Castles”, “The Spy Who Loved me” and other films.)

On Valentine’s Day the Greensboro Symphony performance included a salute to Marvin Hamlisch.

January 29, 2013 – Heinz Hall -Pittsburgh Symphony

PSO had a special one-night-only tribute concert celebrating the life and music of Marvin Hamlisch.  His indelible body of work includes such legendary hits as “The Way We Were” and “One (Singular Sensation)” from the scores he wrote for more than 40 films and eight Broadway shows, including A Chorus Line. 

The evening brought together  and an amazing array of stars: Tony Award-winner and Broadway star Idina Menzel, Lucie Arnaz and Robert Klein, the original stars of Marvin’s Broadway show They’re Playing Our Song. The incomparable singer and pianist Kevin Cole, celebrated English actress and singer Maria Friedman, the All-Star College Chorus, under the direction of Robert Page and acclaimed conductor J. Ernest Green.

Renowned Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik and vocalist Ann Hampton Callaway in a Hamlisch Tribute. “The Way We Were – A Tribute to Hamlisch & Streisand”  Callaway performed her program “The Streisand Songbook,” while Tyzik and  the DSO performed a chorus line medley, and an arrangement of some of Hamlisch’s most treasured compositions.

The DSO paid tribute to the life and music of Marvin Hamlisch under the baton of  exciting conductor Jeff Tyzik! – Several selections from the Marvin Hamlisch songbook were performed.

Oct 13, 2012 – Milwaukee Symphony Pops

MSO Pops honored Marvin Hamlisch and Richard Rodgers. The concerts, planned as a tribute to Richard Rodgers, also became memorials for Hamlisch. Both composers made their mark on the Great American Songbook by creating a legacy of musical standards. They were the only two individuals to win all the major show business awards, as well as the Pulitzer Prize (Rodgers for Oklahoma! and Hamlisch for A Chorus Line). Read More

  1. My wife and I were privileged to be at several Seattle Symphony Pops concerts which Mr. Hamlisch conducted. His wit was wonderful and even I, as someone who just enjoys good music, could tell the respect which the members of the Symphony had for him. He was so personable and intelligent that I, who did not know him personally, felt the great loss to the world of music.
