Michael Douglas Will Be Honored With Marvin Hamlisch Memorial Award at American Cancer Society Gala – June 3rd.

New York, NY – In support of the American Cancer Society, One Centennial Sensation will honor the late Marvin Hamlisch’s birthday with an evening of performances and appearances by friends and family – June 3.Marvin Hamlisch (1944-2012)

The event will be held at the Hudson Theatre at the Millennium Broadway Hotel, where Michael Douglas will receive the first annual Marvin Hamlisch Memorial Award.

Scheduled performers include Matthew Morrison, Lilla Crawford, John Lloyd Young, Capathia Jenkins, Robert Klein, Maria Friedman, Joel Grey, Marissa McGowan, Bernadette Peters and more. See full list of performers here.

For Broadway Hamlisch wrote the music for his groundbreaking show, A Chorus Line, which received the Pulitzer Prize as well as They’re Playing Our Song, The Goodbye Girl and Sweet Smell of Success.

He was the composer of more than forty motion picture scores including his Oscar-winning score and song for The Way We Were and his adaptation of Scott Joplin’s music for The Sting, for which he received a third Oscar. His prolific output of scores for films include original compositions and/or musical adaptations for Sophie’s Choice, Ordinary People, The Swimmer, Three Men and a Baby, Ice Castles, Take the Money and Run, Bananas, Save the Tiger, and his latest effort The Informant!, starring Matt Damon and directed by Steven Soderbergh.

Mr. Hamlisch died in August 2012.
