Let the fantasy continue always. – Marvin Hamlisch (1944-2012)

Marvin, what a wasted life!

You could have been center fielder for the Yankees!

Mickey Mantle

Thanks to Mitchell Beja for these beautiful memories!

“Marvin, I miss you more than words can say.  You were the kindest, most generous and  funniest person I ever knew. The fantasy began in 1989, and lasted 23  years. I knew right after your base hit against  Whitey Ford, reaching 1st base with your hands raised up to the sky, that  you were a true Yankee.

Thank you for the years of friendship, all the  ballgames, the trips to spring training with Brandon and Zack who adored  you, the Idina Menzel concerts with Rori, who loved you.

I think of you every day of my life. Over this past year, realizing the  body of work you have left us, the people you have touched, the students  that have learned from you, that you were larger than life itself. But to  me, you were Marvin.

You were always Marvin, the same as the day I met  you, and the world knows who you are.

On this day, August 6th, my  thoughts and prayers go to Terre, who has made sure that your legacy will  continue for generations, and after that.  I am so lucky to have been a  part of that fantasy that will continue always.  We all miss and love you so  very much, more than anyone could understand, more than you know.

I will miss you forever –  Mitchell Beja

Valerie Lemon and Marvin Hamlisch at Feinstein’s at the Loews Regency after Valerie performed her Cabaret Show: “Valerie Lemon Sings the Music Of Marvin Hamlisch”! October 2010. Not only was Marvin a guest but he got up and performed with me and played while I sang “What I Did For Love”,just like he did many other times in concert, how lucky was I!!!

    Dear Marvin,
I cannot believe it has been a year since you have left this world. I have never met such a champion of music, of the gift of kindness and goodwill toward people.
I feel so lucky to have worked with you and you taught me so much, not only about music but the art of performance. You never said no to anyone if they asked for a favor or help on something. You constantly “Paid it Forward”. On a personal note, not only did you write me an act but when I did my cabaret show at Feinstein’s, you made every effort to be there and perform with me! Thank you Marvin and also thank you for one more treasure, the love of your life Terre Blair Hamlisch. She is an incredible being and continues to inspire me with her eloquence, courage and strength. I am sure your spirit is right there beside her as she moves forward everyday, as hard as it may be.
I love you Marvin, you truly are The People’s Composer and will I continue to sing and share you and your music with the world for as long as I can.
    Love,
    Valerie Lemon

  4. This was the first time Marvin took me to Yankee Stadium and I met Joe Torre, with whom I am still friends. I miss spending time with my buddy, whether making music, seeing a ball game, an opera or eating ice cream. Marvin was a great influence in my life and more important, a friend. I miss him and think of him often
