Marvin Hamlisch, R.I.P. / Happy Birthday! (6/2/1944 — 8/6/2012)
Composer Darryl John Kennedy wrote:
“I want to say thank you to Marvin with this birthday tribute to him which I arranged and performed. ( “The way we were” )
As a composer and musician myself, the brilliant works of composer Marvin Hamlisch reside in a special place of my heart. His many scores, orchestrations and melodies gave the world a sense of higher purpose, with the hope that humanity might always need a loving reason to survive. Words alone cannot describe my feelings for his talent, so I will perform my own arrangement of his song, today on June 2nd, Marvin’s birthday.
Dearest Marvin, You had the rare musical gift of touching that tender place in a human heart, where love’s longing and crushing pain of loss can live on through memories and never die.
Your melodies and harmonies will forever pull the strings of my heart.
Here’s to you Marvin, Happy Birthday.
“The Way We Were”
